Young Nitty
Woke up this morning, with a strong feeling
Head drop back, eyes roll to the ceiling
Thinking 'bout my guy, who rose to the skies
Who are gone and who died, sad feelings, starting to reveal them
They either in jail or people chilled them
To the families ya hearts I feel them
Tough pains even Tylenol can't heal them
But a sense of peace is worth rebuilding...
Elementz DJ Instructor Wins Red Bull Thre3Style Competition:  By DJ Apryl Reign

Elementz DJ instructor Apryl Reign recently won Red Bull's Thre3style DJ competition. Apryl is definitely one of the best DJ's in the Ohio. Read more about her story below.

Last week on May 20th, 2010, I had the wonderful opportunity of competing against the some regions most immensely talented DJs for the Red Bull Thre3Style USA DJ contest. For this event the participants have to play a selection of at least three styles of music in 15 minutes. The participating DJs are judged on their track-selection, technical skills, creativity and most importantly their ability to move the crowd. The likes of CJ Townsend, Clockwork, DJ Haze, Ice Cold Tony,  K-Dogg , Nati Kid,  DJ Pillo, represented to the fullest extent on the "ones and two's".  Surprisingly enough yours truly took home the $1000 prize with an all expenses paid trip to Denver, CO for the National finals. Shock and awe remain to be the two words that represent the emotions that I experienced after they announced the winner...

Elementz and Red Bull
One of the many highlights of the event included what actually happened before it. A couple of days previous, all of the DJ's came to Elementz to tour our facility and share their vast knowledge of their craft as well as some of the ins and outs the business.  They brought along with them the Red Bull tour bus equipped with leather couches, flat screen TV's, and a banging sound system!  The students were very excited and impressed, not only with their knowledge, but especially the tour bus!  After the Elementz tour and Q & A session, all of the DJ's including myself, cruised the city hitting up some of Cincinnati's hottest night clubs and setting fire to their turntables before we left (metaphorically speaking of course).

Since this journey hasn't ended for me yet, I'll keep you posted on the details.  October 7th is the big day. Hopefully from there, Paris! (World finals) You can also check out www.djapyrlreign.com for more details as well. Stay tuned...

Hip Hop Dance Workshop at the Buenger Boys & Girls Club: By Aprina Johnson

Elementz Hip Hop dance instructor Aprina Johnson just finished up an 8 week workshop with youth at the Buenger Boys and Girls club.  This was one of many partnership of the many opportunities that was been presented by The Fine Arts Fund.  Click the picture to see more pictures from the workshop.

During the first week over 25 students attended and every young person was very eager to learn. Many of the children of Newport, Ky normally don't get to experience art very often in the community.  Over the 8 week period children flooded in and out, new and old. All of the children had a chance to come and get a feel of hip hop dance at its best. Not only was it exhilarating, and educational for them but it provided a chance for them to be free and creative in a safe friendly environment. The shyest child would eventually step out and really show there more flamboyant side.  I watched the most outgoing youth step out be respectful, and show their leadership skills. I feel the class naturally makes you feel comfortable enough where you want to step up and be more fearless. The ability to conquer fear takes bravery, and the barriers are being broken down. The dance moves were simple enough for everyone to learn and in the end everyone felt like they had accomplished something. When the challenges came the children automatically supported each other to try their best. It was beautiful experience!!!

We are currently trying to build an in house Elementz band and we need instruments such as a bass guitar, electric guitar, guitar amps and keyboards.  If you know young musicians who can play hip hop, R&B, Rock and Soul please tell them about Elementz. Please take the time to forward this newsletter to a friend. Until our next newsletter comes out this spring, we look forward to seeing you at our next event.
